Signal Recorder SR-7 ("SR-7" or "the App") is a voice recorder for iPhone, iPad and Mac with on-device transcription, titles and summaries, optional iCloud sync and, on the Mac, a markdown library and a local MCP server. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data. The short version: your recordings stay on your devices, nothing goes to us unless you send feedback, and iCloud sync, if you switch it on, uses your own iCloud account.
Your recordings stay yours
Recording, transcription, titles and summaries all happen on your device. We have no access to your audio, transcripts, summaries or notes. If you switch on iCloud sync, your library travels between your devices through your own iCloud account, which we cannot read.
Data that stays on your device
SR-7 creates and processes the following on your device:
Audio recordings
What: Recordings you make in the App, stored as AAC audio, and audio files you import. Imported MP3, M4A and AAC files are kept as they are; WAV, AIFF, CAF, FLAC and ALAC files are converted to AAC.
Purpose: Recording and playing back audio
Storage: On your device, and in your iCloud account if you switch on iCloud sync (see below)
Typed notes
What: Text notes you write in the App instead of recording
Storage: On your device, and in your iCloud account if you switch on iCloud sync
Transcriptions
What: Text made from your recordings by Apple's on-device speech framework
Purpose: Making recordings readable and searchable
Storage: Created on your device and stored with the recording; never sent to us
Titles and summaries
What: A title and a one-sentence summary for each recording, written by Apple's on-device models (FoundationModels) on iPhone, iPad or Mac when Apple Intelligence is available and switched on
Purpose: Helping you find and skim recordings
Storage: Created on your device; no cloud AI service is used
Settings and library structure
What: Projects, favorites, the Trash and your preferences
Purpose: Remembering how you organize and use the App
Storage: On your device, and with your library in iCloud if you switch on iCloud sync
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is off until you switch it on in the App's settings, and you switch it on separately on each device. When it is on, SR-7 uses Apple's CloudKit to keep your recordings, transcriptions, notes and projects in step across your Apple devices.
- Your data is stored in the private CloudKit database of your own iCloud account
- "Include audio files" decides whether the audio itself syncs; it is on when you first switch on sync, and you can turn it off
- We do not operate sync servers and cannot access your iCloud data
- You can switch iCloud sync off at any time in the App's settings
- Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy govern this data in transit and in storage
Markdown library (Mac only)
On the Mac, SR-7 can keep a markdown file with YAML front matter for every recording. You pick a location in Settings, under Library, and SR-7 creates an "SR-7 Library" folder there.
- You choose where the folder lives
- The files stay on your Mac, or wherever that folder syncs to if you put it in a synced location such as iCloud Drive or Dropbox
- SR-7 does not upload these files anywhere
- SR-7 manages the folder: it rewrites files when recordings change and deletes files in it that the App did not create
MCP server (Mac only)
On the Mac, SR-7 can run a local HTTP server that speaks the Model Context Protocol (MCP), so AI tools on your Mac can search and work with your recordings, transcriptions, summaries and notes.
- The server is off until you switch it on in Settings
- It listens only on your Mac, at 127.0.0.1 port 19750 (localhost), and cannot be reached from other devices or the internet
- You choose which of its tools are switched on, and an activity log lists every call
- SR-7 sends nothing to remote servers through it
- What a connected AI tool does with the data depends on that tool's own privacy policy
If you connect SR-7's MCP server to an AI tool that uses cloud processing, your data may leave your device through that tool. Review the privacy practices of any AI tool you connect.
Audio import
You can import audio files through the Files app on iPhone and iPad, and by drag and drop or File, Import Audio on the Mac. Imported files are copied into your SR-7 library on the device. The original files are not modified or deleted.
Permissions
Microphone
SR-7 asks for microphone access to record audio. Without it, the App cannot record.
Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech framework. Folders and files, such as the markdown library location and audio you import, are ones you pick yourself in the system's file panel; SR-7 can reach those and nothing else outside its own storage.
You can change microphone access at any time in your device's system settings.
Network use
SR-7 uses the internet for three things, and only when you use them:
iCloud sync
When you switch it on, your library syncs through Apple's iCloud, as described above.
The feedback form
What: When you send feedback from the App, SR-7 sends the category you pick, your message, your email address if you enter one, and, unless you turn the option off, your system version and the App's version, to our server at fieldbw.com/api/app-feedback.
When: Nothing is sent until you send the form.
Documentation
The Documentation link in the App opens our documentation on fieldbw.com in your web browser.
There is no other network code in SR-7: no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no update checks. Transcription and the title and summary models are Apple system frameworks running on your device, and Apple's privacy policy covers them.
Information we do not collect
SR-7 does not collect, store or transmit:
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Device identifiers or fingerprints
- Location data
- Contacts or address book information
- Browsing or search history
- Advertising identifiers
SR-7 has no accounts. The App Store privacy label for SR-7 reads Data Not Collected.
Data security
- Processing happens on your device, inside Apple's app sandbox
- iCloud data is encrypted by Apple in transit and at rest
- The MCP server listens only on 127.0.0.1 and cannot be reached from the network
- We hold none of your recordings, so there are none on our side to be breached
- You keep control of your recordings at all times
Recording consent and legal compliance
SR-7 is a recording tool. You are solely responsible for complying with all applicable laws and regulations in your jurisdiction regarding the recording of audio, including conversations, meetings, interviews and phone calls.
Many jurisdictions require the consent of one or all parties before a conversation may be recorded. Laws vary significantly by country, state and context. Some key considerations:
- One-party vs. all-party consent: Some jurisdictions require only one participant (you) to consent; others require all participants to be informed and agree
- Workplace policies: Your employer may have policies that restrict or govern recording in the workplace
- Public vs. private settings: Different rules may apply depending on whether you are in a public or private space
- Cross-border considerations: If participants are in different jurisdictions, the most restrictive laws may apply
We strongly recommend that you always inform all parties and obtain their consent before making any recording. When in doubt, ask first.
Field Bureau & Werkstatt LLC does not provide legal advice and accepts no liability for recordings made in violation of applicable law. If you are uncertain about the legality of recording in a specific situation, consult a qualified legal professional in your jurisdiction.
Children's privacy
SR-7 collects nothing from anyone, including children, beyond feedback a user chooses to send. The App is rated 4+ on the App Store.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Privacy by design
SR-7 is built on the principle that your recordings are private: processing on your device, no analytics, no tracking and no cloud AI. Your data stays on your devices unless you choose to sync it through your own iCloud, export it to a folder, or connect an AI tool to it.
