What the MCP server is
Signal Recorder SR-7 on the Mac includes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. MCP is an open standard that lets AI tools talk to an app directly. With the server running, Claude Code, Cursor or any other MCP client on your Mac can list your projects, search your recordings, read transcripts and summaries, create notes and start transcriptions.
The server is part of the Mac app only. It is not in SR-7 for iPhone or iPad, though recordings you make there reach it once iCloud sync is on.
Switch it on
Open SR-7’s Settings on the Mac and choose MCP Server, then switch on Enable MCP Server. The server is off until you do.
- It listens on
127.0.0.1, port19750, so only software on your Mac can reach it. The port is fixed. - It accepts at most 20 requests a second.
- Activity Log, in the same settings, lists every call a client makes.
Connect Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http sr7 http://localhost:19750
The same command is shown in SR-7’s MCP Server settings. Other MCP clients that speak HTTP can use the same address, http://localhost:19750; the server answers on / and on /mcp.
The 20 tools
You can switch each tool on or off in the MCP Server settings. Four start switched off, because they delete things or reveal where your library lives: delete_project, delete_recording, empty_trash and get_library_info.

What to use it for
Ask your AI tool in plain language; it picks the tools.
- Find something you said. “What did I say about the API redesign last week?” The client searches, then reads the recordings it finds.
- Pull out actions. “Go through today’s recordings and list anything I said I would do.” The client lists recordings and reads each transcript.
- Summarize a project. “Give me an overview of everything in the Product Launch project.”
- Draft from your own words. “I recorded some thoughts about on-device AI. Turn them into a blog post draft.”
- Tidy up. “Move this week’s journal entries into the Journal project” or “Clean up the transcript of my last recording.”
Privacy
The server runs on your Mac and serves only clients on your Mac. SR-7 sends nothing anywhere through it. What a connected AI tool does with what it reads is up to that tool: if it sends text to a cloud model, your transcripts leave your Mac through that tool. Check the privacy terms of any client you connect.
